Custom Software Development Case Study: Online Meal Delivery Portal and Health Survey System

Software Background

A nationwide non-profit meal delivery provider approached Solution Works about an innovative program that they felt could help sick people. They needed to develop a software application that would automate the meal delivery process while also capturing survey answers to prove the effectiveness and efficacy of the overall program.

Challenge

The Challenge is that there was going to be a nationwide health insurance organization that would be sponsoring this program for various members of their insurance program. The insurance program wanted to be able to identify discharged hospital patients across the United States who would be able to receive these meals and then have a system in place which would arrange for the delivery of these meals and then be able to track the results, using questionnaires.

The Solution That Works

In order to achieve this solution, Solution Works created a web based portal that did the following:

Deliver data to the web portal in an encrypted format, since it included medical information, protected by HIPAA.
Decrypted the file and imported the data into a Microsoft SQL database, sorted by zip code on a secure server.
Programs across the United States logged in to the system and were able to see only those orders which were tied to a zip code they were authorized to serve.
The system then automated a process of arranging a delivery and confirmation of delivery of the meals for each participant.
After the delivery of the meals, the system required the program to contact each participant for 1-10 days to ask questions about the meals and to track the progress.
After a participant completed the program, the statistics from the meal delivery were delivered back to the insurance company.
